Summary

Anyone who has worn the Asics Gel Resolutions in recent years has come to expect top of the line shoes that offer premier support, stability and durability without sacrificing comfort and performance. In the Gel Resolution 7s, Asics introduce a new polyurethane upper material -- similar to that on the Solution Speed 3 -- that's designed to provide even more support and stability and a more seamless fit. Sure enough, our testers were extremely impressed with the all-around performance of this update. While these shoes are a bit more snug-fitting right out of the box compared to the previous version, this update softened up nicely and provide all of the attributes that we've grown to love from the Gel Resolution line. Premium comfort, cushioning, support, stability and durability were all there in abundance. We put a couple of testers on this review who have been big fans of this line, and the Gel Resolution 7s had them gushing.

Asics Gel Resolution 7 - Scores
Comfort 4,7/5
Ventilation 3,9/5
Arch Support 4,4/5
Foot Support/Stability 4,5/5
Overall Sole Durability 4,1/5
Toe Durability 4,2/5
Traction 4,3/5
Weight 4,1/5
Overall 4,4/5

Comfort - Score: 4,7/5

As we've come to expect from this iconic shoe line, the Gel Resolution 7s proved to be exceptionally comfortable. These shoes have excellent cushioning, and they fit our testers’ feet extremely well. The only criticism we could agree on was that the shoes ran a little bit warm, although it never negatively affected the playing experience. "The uppers flexed and moved well with my feet, so I never felt any poking or pinching during play. My feet also felt securely locked in, and the level of cushioning was top notch " Chris praised.

Foot Support/Stability - Score: 4,5/5

Both testers thought the Gel Resolution 7s offered plenty of support and stability for all of their aggressive on-court movements. Troy even found an improvement over the previous version. He explained, "The upper material is a bit stiffer and held my foot in place for more support. Furthermore, I found that I could trust these shoes when making aggressive lateral changes of direction. "After a brief adjustment period Chris really enjoyed the level of support and stability, especially through the midfoot. He shared, "I felt very locked in when wearing these shoes. The fit was secure enough that my feet didn't slide around inside them. "

Overall Sole Durability - Score: 4,1/5

Our team is confident the Gel Resolution 7s will even hold up for players who are especially hard on their shoes. Chris, who can wear out a pair of tennis shoes quite quickly, could barely do any damage to his pair over the course of the test. "The Gel Resolution series has continually met my durability needs. The seventh version didn't disappoint. " Troy said, "The durability was above average and right up there with the previous version. "

Traction - Score: 4,3/5

We found a nearly perfect blend of grip and give from the outsoles of the Gel Resolution 7s on the hard courts that we tested them on. "They had a good amount of grip, without being too sticky, " Troy shared. "The tread pattern smoothed out after the break-in period and the traction was right where I like it. "

Weight - Score: 4,1/5

Although not the lightest shoes on the market, the Gel Resolution 7s allowed our testers to move at top speeds without being hampered. "Although the Gel Resolution series has never been designed for all out speed, I've always appreciated their support, durability and stability, even though it comes with some added weight, " Chris said. Sharing a similar opinion was Troy, who said, "The weight of the Gel Resolution 7s is about average for the type of shoe that I prefer. Typically, the shoes I gravitate to are more comfort and durability-oriented, and with that I have become used to middle/heavy weight shoes. "

Overall - Score: 4,4/5

Likes

Chris- "Pretty much everything! I loved the fit, feel, comfort, support, cushioning, traction and the flex from the uppers. I felt like I moved very well in the Gel Resolution 7s. "

Troy- "I have been playing in the Asics Gel Resolution 6 for the past couple years, and this seventh edition is even more impressive due to the increased ankle support from the uppers. "

Dislikes

Chris- "None. This was a great test for me. "

Troy- "The only downside was that it took a good week of playtesting before the Gel Resolution 7s began to feel as comfortable as the previous versions. "

COMPARED WITH OTHER MODELS:

Chris- "This is my favorite Gel Resolution so far.. You'd have to wear a Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour from Nike to compete with these, but the Gel Resolution 7s are much more durable. The adidas Barricade 2016s are also worth a look. I find the Barricades to fit a tad narrower and feel stiffer torsionally. All three shoes are tournament worthy options for me. "

Troy- "I found these Gel Resolution 7s to be similar to the Gel Resolution 6s, but this seventh edition is a bit more snug-fitting due to the uppers being slightly stiffer. The increased support was most similar to the 4s. The Gel Resolution 7s aren't quite as stable as the adidas Barricade 2016, but they're close. "
