Nick Kyrgios Foundation
The NK Foundation strives to create a safe place where underprivileged youth can frequently play the sport they dream about and take shelter if needed. Their facilities have tennis courts, basketball courts, a pool, a gym, and dorms that will provide refuge to children who don't have access to play the sport they desire. Their purpose is to give dreams a sporting chance!
We catch up with the electrifying Aussie, and find out what he's been up to recently.
What motivated you to start a foundation? And more specifically, one focused on helping underprivileged youth?
I have always loved helping people, especially kids. I know what a grind life can be, so when the opportunity arose to start a foundation, I thought there was no better way than to help those kids that do not get the opportunity to play sport or experience the community feel around having a team.
What has it been like while the tour has been paused for your mental and physical game?
For me I have used this time to focus and really better myself. Body and mind definitely. I feel really good at the moment, I am training hard, eating well, watching all the NBA I can, playing video games, spending time with my girlfriend. Just doing more of what I can't normally while the tour is running.
What has been one of the greatest blessings for you during these last 6 months (during COVID)?
Family and friends for sure. Being an Australian tennis player, we have to travel a lot and don't have the luxury to fly home for a few days then back out. I can't remember the last time I had this freedom to see everyone in my circle. Definitely not taking it for granted.
What are you looking forward to most with your return to the tour?
I mean everyone loves the competition. I like the challenge that comes with a match and thinking about what I need to do in my game to beat my opponents. Of course I also miss my friends on tour.
How would you describe your relationship with Team Yonex?
I've been using Yonex my whole career. It's an extension of my body at this point. They've always had my back and I'm proud to rep them.
