The 2026 version of the Babolat Pure Aero is designed to swing faster than previous models while retaining the iconic spin and power that the Pure Aero is known for. With this 2026 update, Babolat reengineers the beam to be faster through the air without compromising the racquet's overall stability. Additionally, the latest version of Babolat's NF2 comfort technology incorporates flax fibers in key locations to mitigate unwanted vibrations during impact. Otherwise, the specs of the frame remain largely unchanged, with an average strung swingweight of 320 and balance of 4 points head light. Our team was thoroughly impressed by this update to an iconic frame, noting its exceptional versatility across playing styles and off-the-charts spin production. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that this racquet boasted increased speed through the air while remaining surprisingly stable. Overall, the Pure Aero 2026 is a fantastic choice for players who crave spin and power (in that order) above all else.

Breakdown

Groundstrokes: 8.7

Baseline exchanges with the Babolat Pure Aero 2026 were rewarding for each player on this playtest. Shots were primarily characterized by the massive spin potential, but the racquet's speedy nature was also a major factor. Well-versed in the history of the Pure Aero, Brittany was able to lean into her aggressive baseline game to create devastating angles and hit with effective variety. She explained, "I have hit many generations of the Pure Aero, and I was lucky enough to hit with a prototype of this generation a couple of months ago. That first hit made me very excited for this playtest because the racquet felt great from the first swing. With the final version in hand, I can confirm that the Pure Aero 2026 feels super fast. It is very easy to get around my body from the baseline, which allowed me to generate racquet head speed for power and add spin with just a flick of the wrist. With that combo, it’s no surprise that my favorite shot to hit was a short, angled groundstroke off both wings, and I was able to use it in a variety of situations. Another thing to note was that the launch angle felt normal (unlike some other spin-friendly racquets that have higher launch angles), and this allowed me to swing freely without overhitting. I did need to aim higher to get my flat shots to go deep, but I would not call that a negative, just something to get used to. Slices were just OK with this racquet, but they got the job done as needed."

Although Tiffani has prefered the Pure Drive more in the past, this was the first time the Pure Aero truly felt wholly viable for her, letting her hit both flat and with spin if need be. She said, "I've hit most versions of the Pure Aero and AeroPro Drive, and I’ve always thought of it as a spin-friendly racquet that might not be the best for my flatter game, so I've always gravitated toward the Pure Drive instead. This time around, though, I really found the Pure Aero 2026 to be versatile and workable without having to change my game. I was shocked by how much faster this 2026 version felt through the air. Still, what stood out most to me is that this racquet still felt very controllable when I wasn't emphasizing spin, unlike some other spin racquets and older Pure Aeros. Some of my shots were landing shorter than I expected, but I attribute that to the added spin I was getting. One other note is that the stock grip on the Pure Aero 2026 felt very round to me. It actually allowed me to be pretty wristy with my shots, and I liked that when trying to hit cross-court dippers. However, because this base grip felt thicker overall, I'd use a 4 1/8 grip with an overgrip rather than my usual 4 1/4."

Similar to Tiffani, Zsofi had more success hitting both flat and spin shots with the Pure Aero 2026 than she did with previous versions of the Pure Aero. She said, "The new Pure Aero 2026 responds really well to spin, and I honestly love the amount of spin I was able to create with this racquet; it's just pure fun. No other racquet on the market has the same spin potential, at least for my game. The Pure Aero 2026 excels at the baseline and allows me to take control of rallies with aggressive spin on the ball, and it lets me create some sharp angles as well. If you are a flat hitter, this might not be the best racquet for you, but to my surprise, this updated version responded to flat shots much better! Babolat made some awesome updates to this version. It feels faster in the air and allows me to bring the racquet head around faster and easier. Another great update that I noticed was a more comfortable feel. The response from the racquet is just more plush and improved. I noticed less vibration and a softer response all around, which I think will be appreciated by many players. This is definitely a powerful racquet, and it could get launchy on me a bit, which just reminded me to use a bit more spin to keep my shots in."

"I liked the feel of the Pure Aero 2026; it felt crisp enough for a clean response and some useful pop yet flexible enough to be comfortable."

-Chris

From spin to feel to maneuverability, the Pure Aero 2026 provided Chris with everything he wanted at the baseline. He described, "The Pure Aero 2026 felt great on groundstrokes, and I loved the way it came through the ball. There is an aerodynamic benefit with this update that had a noticeable impact on the pace and spin of my shots. I was able to give the ball ample height over the net, and with all the spin I was getting I could still get the ball to dip way inside the lines. There was also a good blend of maneuverability and stability, with a slight err on the side of maneuverability. I was getting lots of spin on my slice backhand, but not quite the drive I get with the Pure Aero 98 2026."

Volleys: 8.4

The Pure Aero 2026 offered excellent maneuverability at the net, with better than expected stability. Utilizing his signature touch and craftiness when volleying, Chris was able to attack or be creative with ease. He explained, "I found the Pure Aero 2026 to be a very easy racquet to use at net. It felt so easy to position the racquet and then punch the volley away. I loved the pace and depth I could generate. Best of all, I didn't feel like I was losing any control when I was really attacking the ball. The power level felt very predictable, and my volleys felt consistent. I thought there was a nice balance between comfort and feel for the ball. My touch volleys were working well, and I was able to get enough spin to cut an even sharper angle."

Zsofi also found great feel and touch at net, which let her work the point effectively from the forecourt. She said, "I enjoyed the Pure Aero 2026 at the net. I thought I was able to finish points with ease thanks to the extra power I was getting from the racquet. Maneuverability was also good, and I never felt like I was late for a shot. This update's improved feel was noticeable at the net, which was a nice plus for me."

"Image

The Pure Aero 2026 helped Tiffani keep the pressure on her opponents with her volleys. She explained, "The Pure Aero 2026 delivered just what I expected at net. Although I don't have the best hands, this racquet made it easy to put balls away at net. I didn't have the confidence to mess around too much with touch shots, but keeping it simple and blocking the ball back worked well for me. The feel was comfortable and stable enough, and the maneuverability was ideal."

Brittany found above-average maneuverability and good-enough feel for both touch shots and put-aways. She said, "As I expected, the Pure Aero 2026 felt very maneuverable when I was hitting volleys. I loved it when I got into a quick-hands scenario while playing doubles. I was able to get the racquet into position with ease, and I felt like I had the upper hand against my opponent in reflex volley exchanges. The racquet was stable enough to keep me from having any issues with it twisting in my hands on harder hit passing shots. I also enjoyed the feel and was able to hit a good mix of volleys."

Serves: 8.6

Serves with the Pure Aero 2026 were primarily characterized by heavy spin and pace, which allowed our testers to up their aggression. Brittany found spin-based serves to be the best for her when starting thepoints with this racquet. She described, "Babolat makes a great lineup of racquets for serving. The Pure Drive still remains my favorite, so the Pure Aero had some tough competition. I relied on the excellent spin potential of the Pure Aero 2026 to execute both my first and second serves. I loved slicing first serves out wide on the deuce side and then mixing in a slice into the body. On second serves, I loved to use the spin to add even more kick. This allowed my serves to kick out of my opponent's strike zone (most noticeably on the ad side). While the power level is lower than the Pure Drive, as expected, I could still tap into some power potential from time to time on my first serve, but I had to work a little harder for it (same goes with depth)."

"Image

Finding increased pace and more spin, Tiffani had a blast serving with the Pure Aero 2026. She said, "Serves were a standout shot for me. I am always looking to improve my serve so I don't start points on the defensive. I got some good pace off my usual swings, but I was mostly impressed with hitting slice serves. I felt that they had more movement to them than usual, and it was my go-to serve with the Pure Aero 2026."

The Pure Aero 2026 felt highly obedient and extremely impactful on Zsofi's serve. She explained, "Serving was an absolute blast with this racquet! I really enjoyed tapping into the power potential of this Pure Aero 2026, and the extra spin on my serves felt like a great advantage. I was actually feeling confident enough to go for more aggressive serves."

"I'm not usually one to rely on my serves as a weapon, but that changed with this Pure Aero 2026."

-Zsofi

Chris also found dependable performance from this Pure Aero 2026, getting both good action and consistency on his serves. He said, "I served well with the Pure Aero 2026, and I found solid access to both pace and spin. Just like on groundstrokes, I was able to clear the net by a healthy margin and still get the ball to dip well inside the lines. My slice serve had some good action on it, and I was using that serve primarily. I was also very happy with the pace I was getting on flat serves. Best of all, I felt like I was serving very consistently with this racquet."

Returns: 8.5

Our testers were pleased with the Pure Aero 2026's reliability when returning a variety of serves. For Chris, the new Pure Aero made it easy to swing big or block the ball back effectively. He said, "The Pure Aero 2026 is a fantastic racquet on returns. It felt very fast and easy to whip around. I was able to get plenty of spin on my shots, which allowed me to swing aggressively without overhitting. I had a lot of fun ripping cross-court returns with as much topspin as my swing mechanics could muster. On block and chip returns, I was very happy with the depth and directional control I found from the racquet. Likewise, slice returns had ample spin and good placement."

To counteract the easy power of the 2026 Pure Aero, Zsofi had to implement more topspin to bring her returns back into the court. She described, "I liked returning with this racquet for the most part, but at certain times it could get a bit launchy. I had to make the conscious effort to put extra spin on my shots to avoid launching the ball too deep in the court."

Tiffani was able to utilize her natural style of return without overhitting, which made this Pure Aero 2026 viable for her on returns. She noted, "As I mentioned in the groundstrokes section, this Pure Aero didn't seem to punish flatter shots, and that was really key for me on returns. I felt pretty dialed in on my returns, whereas I may have previously felt like this is the shot that could get away from me and sail long because I was hitting too flat."

Brittany felt like she could really go after her returns. She explained, "I preferred hitting returns over serves with this generation of Pure Aero, but this is the case with most racquets I playtest. I felt I could really be aggressive on my returns, and this created some extra confidence. I was able to step in even against a first serve, get the Pure Aero into position and attack it. My returns were controlled, and I was able to aim for a wide range of targets. The story was the same on second serves, and I loved adding in some shots with more spin to mix it up."

I didn't think it was possible, but this Pure Aero 2026 update is more spin-friendly and faster through the air than the previous generation. The feel is also slightly different. It’s still firm, but not too stiff and slightly more comfortable than I remember. Other racquets that play similarly include the Dunlop SX 300, Head Extreme MP and Yonex VCORE 100.

Likes

I like the spin and maneuverability. Also, I’m a fan of the cosmetics.

This Pure Aero 2026 is similar to previous versions in that it's spin-friendly and powerful like its predecessors, but I think it swings faster. For whatever reason, I also thought this racquet took less adjusting to for my flatter hitting style. I could just play my usual strokes and not feel punished for hitting too flat. I would compare this Pure Aero 2026 to the Dunlop FX 500, which is a bit springier in its response, the Head Extreme MP and the Prince Ripcord 100 300g.

Likes

I like that it's easy to hit with spin, but that's not totally necessary to get this racquet to work for me. It's maneuverable as well. Of all the Pure Aeros I’ve tried, the Pure Aero 2026 is my favorite.

Dislikes

The grip feels just a tiny bit too big for me in my usual size if I want to use an overgrip. I could stay in size without an overgrip, but I like them, so I would go down to a 4 1/8 from my usual 4 1/4. I think it's due to the thickness of the stock grip, so I could also just swap out the stock grip for a thinner one.

I think Babolat did a fantastic job updating the Pure Aero. The Pure Aero 2026 does everything the previous version did, but with easier access to spin and pace. This racquet gives me similar access to spin as my Tecnifibre TFight 300, but it hits just a slightly more penetrating ball. The Pure Aero 2026 has closer string spacing compared to several other spin-oriented racquets, which gives me better directional control compared to the Yonex VCORE 100 8th Gen or the Dunlop SX 300 2025.

I love the spin, the easy power, the forgiving feel, the blend of power and control and the shape I can get on my shots.

None.

The Pure Aero 2026 feels a bit faster and more comfortable than the previous version. When compared to the Pure Aero 98, this racquet feels a bit less controlled and precise, but it still has the same spin and power potential that Pure Aero lovers are used to!

Likes

I think the new cosmetic looks great. I love the spin and power potential.

Dislikes

The Pure Aero 2026 can get a bit launchy at times.
