Overview
Wilson updates one of their most spin-friendly rackets with an elegant tri-color cosmetic and better feel! It's called the Blade 98S 18x16 and it features the same elastic paint finish originally launched with Federer's Pro Staff RF97 Autograph. Although the 98S is only 295 grams (unstrung), it packs a serious punch when swung fast. In addition to its arm-friendly stiffness level, this racket benefits from a technology called FeelFlex, which uses Carbon Mapping to add torsional stability while also helping the racquet bend in ways that compliment the explosive mechanics of the modern game. Like its predecessor, the 98S is a spin-monster. With its 18x16 Spin Effect string pattern, this racket gives you the tools to hit spin-loaded balls that drop hard and explode off the court. Wilson also gives this model Parallel Drilling technology which helps the stringbed absorb impact shock and transfer more energy to the outgoing shot. From the baseline the 98S feels solid, comfortable and lively. Not only is there enough power for driving the ball powerfully through the court, the spin potential is massive. As a result, the 98S hits a very heavy ball in the right hands. At net, this racket's near even balance gives it a solid feel at impact, and there's enough pop to block the ball with depth. Finally, aggressive servers will have the power and spin to cause some damage. Intermediate and advanced players looking for a solid feeling racket with juice levels of power and spin should love this one. The updated feel is a nice bonus.
