Overview

Wilson updates the Burn 100 with some extra speed and comfort. It's called the Burn 100 CV, and it gives intermediate and advanced players an impressive combination of power, spin and precision. Boasting a more head light balance and lower swingweight than its predecessor, this stick swings decidedly faster than the prior generation. The upshot is a more user friendly racket, one that will enable intermediate and advanced players to attack the ball. For this update Wilson not only lowers the racketR019s stiffness but they've also added a dampening technology called Countervail, which is a unique material layer designed to reduce harsh vibrations and muscle fatigue. Although these updates provide a welcomed boost in comfort, the Burn's firm Carbon Fiber layup gives it a wonderfully crisp and lively response. This is still a stiff modern playerR019s frame. From the baseline the Burn 100 CV feels fast, spin friendly and remarkably precise. Compared to the previous version, it is ideal for flicking the ball when outstretched or cranking winners from a dead sprint. The quick handling is also a huge asset on service returns where the Burn 100 comes around with mindless ease to deliver an undeniable level of accuracy on full cuts. Finally, the speed at which this stick whips through contact on serve should allow a wide range of players to work the entire box with pace and spin. Wilson has succeeded in creating a quicker, more comfortable Burn 100. This is a must hit for hard charging intermediates or advanced players who want a light and user-friendly performance racket that offers easy targeting on big swings.

Additional technologies include Parallel Drilling, which enables the strings to absorb more vibration and transfer more power to the ball; X2 Shaft and X2 Ergo Grip Boosters, which features a longer grip along with optional inserts to provide extra leverage to players with two-handed backhands

Comments: Tried the Burn 100 CV on a whim, not expecting to like it much but am now switching to it! I had demo'ed a Burn FST 95 a few years ago and developed tennis elbow because of it. Have been through many racquets through the recent years: Pure Drive, Pure Drive Tour, Pure Drive Plus, AeroPro Drive, Pure Aero, Project One7, Ai/DR98, Graphene Touch Speed Pro, RF 97A, SV 98, and Ultra Tour but for some reason I am playing my best so far with the Burn 100 CV. Volleys and serves have seen the biggest improvement, and the power of the racquet lets me stay competitive in longer singles matches. Strung with Cyclone 17 around 50 lbs, it has just the right amount of pop and feel. It definitely plays a little stiff which can lead to some wrist soreness, but that can be negated with a cushioned replacement grip and a good dampener. As others have mentioned, the paint can chip off but that happens with any racquet. My UTR: 8 / NTRP: 4.5.

Comments: Coming from a Blade 98 16x19, I feel that this racquet has significantly more power but less feel. I prefer this racket for my 2-handed backhand as I can't seem to hold the Blade completely with my left hand. There was no noticeable difference on my forehand though. I think I'm going to switch to this racquet as soon as I've mastered touch shots with it. Also I'm already in my mid 40s and I need a more powerful racket so the Burn is gonna be perfect for me. I just need more time with it.

Comments: My impressions during a 45 minute hitting session with a TW Demo -- I've decided that at 63 years old I need a frame with more power. This racquet has lots of power and with my long loopy strokes I found it difficult to find large targets on the court. By simply moderating my swing, the racquet behaved much better. Not a stiff as others have reported. Strings will make or break this racquet for most players. Serves were effortless if not a bit imprecise. Volleys were awesome and crisp. Overheads were monstrous. Anyone needing more power for their game will find this racquet to be the answer.

Comments: Great racquet! Loads of spin and control! Needed a lighter racquet, I've tried them all, this is it! I have it strung with Cyclone at 55lbs. I'm going to try Lux string next. It's nice! So light and power when you need it. Great on serves! I'm 4.5 player.

Comments: So far I love this Wilson Burn 100. It was an easy transition from the Babolat AeroPro Drive 2013. I feel like I get great power & control with the burn, and the shots feel a lot more solid. If you are looking for a stick on the stiffer side that will give you awesome power at the baseline, give this one a try. I gave the Wilson Blade a shot but that was too flexible of a racquet and I hated it. I guess I need a little more firm stick like the Burn.I am a 5.0 (UTR = 10 player).

Comments: The paint is very poor quality and not durable at allcompared to all of the other rackets that I have owned! I have never seen paint come of a racket like this.

Comments: I actually hated this racquet when I first demoed it. The string it had made it incredibly stiff and difficult to use. However, I received this as a gift kind of on a whim, and after stringing it with Solinco Hyper-G at a relatively lower tension, I noticed almost a complete turnaround in usability. I agree with most of the reviews in that the racquet allows easy access to power and spin from all areas of the court, especially serves and groundstrokes. It does lack slightly in control/feel due to stiffness and a somewhat muted feel, specifically for touch volleys. However, I feel as though most of the stiffness can be compensated for with the right string. Probably my main concern is that I began noticing some ulnar sided wrist pain which initially transpired after a bad shank, and now reoccurs intermittently after prolonged play (4+ hours/day) but this typically resolves after a day of rest. Overall, I am very satisfied with this racquet. Don't be misled after demoing for the first time because the strings might make a big difference for you as it did for me. If you like the balance and maneuverability, and can deal with a moderately stiff frame, then definitely give this racquet a shot. Of note-- I play at the 4.5 level.
