Overview

Solinco Hyper-G is a square shaped co-poly with an impressive combination of spin and precision. Developed for an ATP top 50 player, this medium firm string will allow big hitters to take massive cuts at the ball without having to worry about overhitting. Topspin players who like hitting balls that dive sharply and explode off the court should love this string. Try this ultra thin version of Hyper-G for maximum spin and feel.

Comments: I've just started using this in the mains of my Phantoms, crossed with Pro Supex Big Ace Micro 18L. I've used the latter for several years as my go-to string for its feel, predictable response and excellent tension maintenance. Prior to this I used Weiss Cannon Blue Rock n Power Hybrid. It also has a square main and a smooth poly cross but I waned something a little less dead feeling and more lively. So I took their setup and created my own version with Hyper-G. I've used this setup at 3 different tensions now and the Hyper-G feels absolutely amazing. Unfortunately that feeling is countered by how quickly and severe the tension loss happens. I'll string, let the racquet sit for 3-5 days, then go out and marvel at how great it feels. But after about 3-4 hours, the tension drops dramatically and I'm struggling with a lively, spongy feeling stringbed. It still feels good, don't get me wrong, but it's actually too lively and I struggle to keep the balls in when hitting out. I went from stringing the Weiss Cannon setup in the mid 40 lbs. I started this setup in the upper 40s, upper 40s, next low 50s and now I'm in the mid 50s and it's way too lively after one match. I'm not sure if I should move on or maybe try a 20-30% prestretch on it. Great string but watch out for that initial tension loss.

Comments: Reporting Back. This string lasted three, almost 4 weeks. Still no arm issues. Best part is my game has actually improved because of the much better control and launch angle I am getting with this string. Not crazy about the optic green. The day it goes bad you know it. The spin is almost gone. The feel is weird. Balls launch. Arm tweaks. My advice is to make sure you have a backup racquet with same tension and only about an hour or two of play on it so that you can continue the match with some sort of reliability in the control and feel of this string. Now, if someone could make this string last five weeks I wouldn't feel like I am going to make my racquet stringer a rich guy. I used to string racquets professionally on a Serano "No Awl" drop weight. If I buy a stringing machine, I think I could pay for it in a year or maybe two and have the piece of mind of always having a fresh string setup. I'm the gut multi guy who said I would never string with a poly.

Comments: After reading just about every poly review on this site, I took the plunge and deserted my 18 gauge multi with hopes of better play. I play with a 105 square inch Dunlop 300G with a RA of around 57 lbs so I thought my arm would be OK. The Dunlop has an 18x20 pattern and I was having issues with launch angle when rushed by big hitters (not having time to drop head below and give a good brush up). Verdict: My arm is fine. The higher launch angle strung at 56 lbs is better. The feel is great. My twist serve kicks much higher. My flat and slice are unaffected. So, now I'm wondering just how long this sweet feeling is going to last. I play 2-3 times a week (doubles) so I am hopeful to get at least three to four weeks from it. If I don't, I'll resort back to the multi which lasts forever.

Comments: Moved to this string after playing with Tour Bite as my string of choice. Hyper-G plays with more spin and better ball pocketing, but also plays more dead in comparison to Tour Bite. The arc of the ball when it comes off the string bed is also higher with Hyper-G. The 18 gauge is the least stiff and most arm friendly. This is an awesome string, but is not for players who can't supply their own power!

Comments: My son (10 years old) started breaking his previous string (Tour Bite 20) every day, so I was looking for an alternative. Based on his feedback and my experience, this string gives him even more spin, with better depth and control. I string his Wilson Blade 98S with this string at 39M/35C lbs. It's an excellent string for him and I'm happy that now, it's a once a week stringing routine for me!

Comments: I have tried all the Hyper-G gauges, in full-beds. The 16 gauge is much too stiff for me, even in the high 40s lbs. The 17 gauge was better, but still stiff feeling as well. I finally worked my way down to 18 gauge and this is it. You get amazing spin for control, the tension loss is relatively minimal after the initial break-in, and it does not hurt my shoulder, even at 50 lbs. I have started using it at 40 lbs and it seems to come alive even more, though control suffers slightly. Right now I am using it strung between 40 and 45 lbs, and that seems to be the sweet spot. I play 3 or 4 times per week, and re-string every other month. My racquet is a Head Microgel Radical Oversize, which is low-powered and has a closed string pattern. With 18 gauge Solinco Hyper-G, the racquet also comes alive. I am sold.

Comments: I tried the 18 gauge at 49 lbs and still found the string to be very stiff.

Comments: My new favorite string. Hyper-G 18 is freakishly good. Great spin and control. I've strung is as high is 56 lbs and as low as 47 lbs. The strings really woke up at 47 lbs and I was generating a ton of spin on groundstrokes and serves. Settled at 47 lbs in the mains and 49 lbs in crosses, full bed of Hyper-G 18.

Comments: This string feels great on its own, but also works amazing as a hybrid with Gut mains. Tons of spin, feel, and nice even response. Holds playability well.
From:Max, 4/16

Comments: Outstanding string. I enjoy the 18 even better than the 17 gauge.
